This image was taken in the village of Sag Harbor, New York. Sag Harbor has a storied history. It was settled by English colonists around 1707, was the scene of Revolutionary War battles , deemed the first port of entry to the U.S. in 1787, and was a major whaling port. The scene evoked a time gone by, of what this landscape may have looked like in colonial times as part of the new frontier. A simple, neglected house, partially immersed in water, suggests a fraught relationship with history. - C. Beck
